Silver Spring, MD – Writer and internet marketing expert, Angela Render will teach a dynamic hands-on technology class this fall at Eastern Middle School.

Passion For LearningGRRL Tech
Girls Really, Really Love Technology (GRRL Tech) is an innovative program to nurture the interest and skills of minority girls in the wonder and possibilities of science and technology. This year-round program provides dynamic hands-on learning in computer science, web development, and other technology areas, and includes scholarships to summer computer camps. It also taps the talents of female professionals from the local technology community. The program is designed around teams of 15 girls at one elementary school and three middle schools.

“I’m really excited about working with the girls. I hope I can generate some excitement for them,” Angela said. “For so many people, computers and the internet are intimidating. Most people who use technology have no idea how it works or how to manipulate it. I hope that I can teach the girls how to have fun shaping the internet to serve them.”

GRRL Tech is a program put out by Passion for Learning. Funded by Freddie Mac Foundation, the Jerome S. and Grace H. Murray Foundation, the Verizon Foundation, the Montgomery County Public Schools, Whole Foods Markets, Silver Spring, and three other local businesses, Passion for Learning began in 2000 with 80 students. Today their work has expanded to include a growing number of elementary and middle schools in Montgomery County, Maryland, where performance is affected by high rates of poverty and the need to learn English as a second language. It has also expanded to include a growing number of business and community volunteers committed to inspiring students to become passionate lifelong learners.
