Angela Speaks at the MWA HoCo Chapter Meeting: Calling all wizards, witches, creatures from other planets!

Maryland Writers Association HoCo Chapter Meeting

Calling all wizards, witches, creatures from other planets, the readers who love them and the writers who work behind the scenes.

Take a spring vacation to a red-skyed world. Ride a howlerpaw or rip a portal through space and time. Building believable settings for your fantasy or science fiction novel can make you long for that vacation. At this month’s Howard County Chapter meeting, find out how to build that world and balance the information you need to know versus the information your reader needs to know. Bring your best problems and we’ll work out the solutions.

Speaker: Angela Render

By profession a web developer, Angela Render moonlights as a fiction writer and is known among her peers for building complex and believable fantasy and science fiction worlds to set her novels in. Her historical fiction, Forged By Lightning: A Novel of Hannibal and Scipio, was published in 2002 and her short-story “The Dryad” appeared in the Maryland Writers Association’s anthology, New Lines From the Old Line State. Her workbook, Marketing for Writers: A Practical Workbook was released in January 2009 with a second edition due for release in July of this year. She also has a column in Writers’ Journal called “Computer Business.” She regularly teaches writers how to build a Web presence at The Writers’ Center in Bethesda, Md., and Web development to at-risk middle-school girls in Montgomery County through Passion For learning’s GRRLTech. She has been a guest speaker at the Maryland Writers’ Association, Balticon, and the Bay to Ocean Writers Conference. Her Web site is www.angelarender.com
