The Cicadas Are Coming – Poem Song

cicadas-small

A fun little song inspired by the empty cicada shell left grasping the tree trunk. I remember playing with those things as a kid and who can ever forget the unique sound they make. Enjoy!

(Buzzing)
Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee!

In the midsummer heat when there’s nary a breeze.
They climb from their holes and up into the trees.

The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!
The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!

Deep in the summer when the heat is high.
They emerge from their skins and let their wings blow dry.

The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!
The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!
The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!
Not locusts. Cicadas! Everybody buzz now.

Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo!
Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo!
Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo!

They suck tree sap like a vampire gnat.
In a frenzied state they will call for a mate.

Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo-eeee!

The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!
The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!
The cicadas are coming.
Lo-custs!
Not locusts. Cicadas! Everybody buzz now.

Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo!
Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo!
Zooo-eeee-oooo-eeee-oooo!
