About Me
I’ve designed and maintained web sites, and now blogs, professionally for over a decade. I taught myself to program back in 1994 when I wanted a website for myself, and then moved on to programming for others. I was the Web Editorial Assistant for Smithsonian Magazine for two years before I was promoted to Web Developer. During that time, I received many commendations for performing well under pressure.
When my daughter was born in 2003, I took on a new career as a full-time mom. After four years of serving selected “naptime” clients, I decided it was time to expand. By 2009, I was so busy that I enlisted the aid of my husband and founded Thunderpaw Web Marketing and Development, a full-service company and one of the few in the world that offers, marketing, graphics design, programming, search engine optimization, copywriting/copyediting, and back-end DNS, email, and hosting support.
My organization skills and attention to detail make me an invaluable part of any organization I’ve worked with. My speedy response time, enthusiasm, ability to focus, and unshakable confidence make me a key player on any team. My adaptability has served both my clients and former employers time and again.
In an effort to share what I’ve learned, I started teaching classes at The Writer’s Center in 2007. I’ve since taught programming and graphics editing to underprivileged girls through Passion For Learning’s GRRL Tech, and I’ve been featured as a speaker at Maryland Writer’s Association meetings and at their annual conference, Balticon, and the Bay to Ocean Writer’s Conference.
Prior to my Internet career, I went through a variety of jobs including: airline electrical parts account manager, and a costume designer. I graduated with honors from George Mason University in 1993 with a bachelor of arts degree in history and a minor in music. I participated in an internship program at Chancellorsville Battlefield Museum and had the experience of teaching the curator how to update the museum’s computer database.
In my spare time, I’m driven to write and I published my first novel, Forged By Lightning: A Novel of Hannibal and Scipio, in the spring of 2006. My short story, “The Dryad” was featured in the Maryland Writers’ Association’s 2008 Anthology, New Lines from the Old Line State, I have a regular column in Writers’ Journal called “Computer Business,” and my workbook, Marketing for Writers: A Practical Workbook was released in January of 2009. My husband and I researched, renovated and decorated a circa 1894 Victorian house, then wrote and published the history of the house. I’ve raced sports cars and have been a student of the martial arts for sixteen years. I enjoy being girls with my daughter, traveling, and gardening.
