Internet Marketing Tips

Once again, I attended panels at Balticon and as always, I had a fantastic time. This year was a bit different for me, since my husband ended up in Florida for the weekend and I had my sister-in-law looking after my daughter. I was able to hang out and do all sorts of things I hadn’t been able to do in previous years, including get to talk to people and SHOP! Yes, I actually got to browse through the vendors tables this year! I approve of the new set-up for those as well.

I had the privilege of speaking at the 21st Annual Maryland Writers’ Association Conference on May 9, 2009, held at the Maritime Institute of Technology in Linthicum Heights, MD. The Maritime Institute was a great facility for the event. I say this from the perspective of a speaker who has had her unfair share of “oops” stories when it comes to presenting. Through Passion for Learning’s GRRL Tech, Girls Really, Really Love Technology, I took on a classroom full of 6th and 7th grade girls with the intent of teaching them web programming.

When the Marketing Out-Classes the Product

Most of you writers and Internet marketers probably don’t pay attention to the business engines behind MMO’s (Massively Multiplayer Online video games). If you play them at all, you might not care overly much how their stock prices are faring and if you’re trading stocks, you may not play them.

I’m coming down off of my weekend at Balticon 42 and now that I have a moment to catch my breath, I want to thank the organizers and the Baltimore Science Fiction Society for hosting a marvelous event.

I have avoided starting my own blog for quite some time. Sure, I know it’s a great way to establish yourself on the web and create credibility for yourself as a professional. I also know that it can build a platform that can be used to land a book deal. I know all this, but it seemed like an incredible time consumer to me. I made the executive decision to use the time to write and sell articles instead.
